Dear Parents and Carers,
NSW Department of Education Updated Student Reports
From Term 2 2025, Wentworth Point Public School will be introducing updated student school reports. The new format has been developed by the NSW Department of Education in response to feedback from parents and educators to make reports easier to read and understand. Below I have outlined some key changes.
- Your child’s report will still show their progress across all subject areas.
- Teacher comments will appear in English, mathematics and we will be introducing a general comment section, in line with department policy.
- The general comment for Kindergarten will cover all other key learning areas including, creative arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and science and technology.
- Parent–teacher interviews remain an important way to discuss your child’s progress and achievement in more detail. We will be holding Parent- teacher interviews throughout the final week of Term 2.
- Attendance information will show days whole day and partial absences.
- A new achievement scale and descriptors are included to provide a clearer picture of your child’s progress. This new scale is outlined below. This scale is used for students in Years 1 to 6 only. Kindergarten students will have written comments provided for each of the key learning areas describing student achievement in relation to syllabus expectations.
Achievement description | Word descriptor | Grade |
Your child's achievement in this subject is outstanding. They confidently apply their knowledge and skills in a range of new and complex situations. | Outstanding | A |
Your child's achievement in this subject is high. They confidently apply their knowledge and skills in a range of familiar and new situations. | High | B |
Your child's achievement in this subject is at the expected standard. They apply their knowledge and skills in familiar situations. | Expected | C |
Your child's achievement in this subject is basic. They apply their knowledge and skills in familiar situations with support. | Basic | D |
Your child's achievement in this subject is limited. They apply their knowledge and skills in some familiar situations with significant support. | Limited | E |
As part of our ongoing efforts to embrace technology and reduce our environmental impact, we are excited to announce a significant change in how you will receive your child's academic reports. Starting this term, all reports will be accessible through School Bytes, our online platform. There will no longer be paper copies of student reports. This change aims to streamline the reporting process, making it easier for you to access your child's performance and progress at any time.
Mother’s Day Breakfast
I would like to thank the WPPS P & C for hosting a Mother’s Day Breakfast event last week. It was wonderful to share the morning with mums and discuss and reflect on the joys and challenges of being a mother in 2025.
Wentworth Point Baby Arrivals Continue
On 5 April 2025, Seray Attas, 2024 classroom teacher of the Redbacks, gave birth to a baby boy named Miran. At birth he weighed 3.4 kg and was 51centimertrs long. He has settled well into life at home and Seray is loving every minute of being a mum.
On 21 April, 2025, Negin Dahoudi, 2024 classroom teacher of the Fireflies, gave birth to a baby girl named Inara. She was born at 2:52 am, weighed 3.28 kg and was 51centimetres long. Negin is loving being a mum and enjoying her time bonding with her baby girl.
With the arrival of Miran and Inara, we are currently at four Wentworth Point Public School babies for 2025.
Stage 3 Camp
Our Stage 3 students and staff have had an incredible two day camp at Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre. The students participated in kayaking, archery, damper making, bushwalking and enjoyed the outdoors. I would like to thank our staff Ms Tavakol, Ms Sananpa, Ms Chen, Mr Vinnik, Mrs Kollias and Ms Phan for taking time away from their family and friends to ensure that our students have this opportunity. Our staff volunteer to attend camp and they are not paid extra. They attend camp because they care about our students. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated teachers at Wentworth Point Public School. More photos and details will be shared with the community over the next couple of weeks. For now, we have shared some photos on our school Facebook page.
Kind Regards
Jayne Muir

Dear All,
What a busy and exciting time it has been at our school! It’s been wonderful to greet you each morning and witness the magic of learning unfold every day in learning spaces. We are also thrilled to share that we are currently underway with planning our 2025 Education Week celebration, set to take place in Term 3. Last year’s celebration was a highlight for all, as we came together to celebrate belonging and the importance of public education at WPPPS. We can’t wait to make this year’s event even more special!
Sorry Day & National Reconciliation Week
This week, our school community came together to commemorate Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. Students across all year groups engaged in meaningful activities and discussions, learning about the significance of these observances in acknowledging Australia’s history and working towards a more inclusive future. Through art, storytelling, and collaborative projects, our students explored the themes of respect, recognition, and healing. We are proud of their efforts to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the ongoing journey of reconciliation. One activity that was completed across the school, was student pledged what they can do - so make sure you ask your child what they pledged!

Afternoon Exit
A friendly reminder to all families: for the safety and consistency of our afternoon dismissal, all students and families are only to be exiting through the back gate. We understand that the front gate may seem more convenient, especially for those heading to the ferry or Pier Side, but we ask for your cooperation in following this procedure. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of all students and maintain order during pick-up times. Thank you for your understanding and support!
See you at the gate or in a learning space soon!
Kind Regards
Daniel Hall

Dear Parents and Carers,
A big thank you to all the students and families who took part in Walk Safely to School Day as part of National Road Safety Week. It was wonderful to see so many of our students walking with care, using crossings safely, and showing great awareness around traffic.
We also want to acknowledge our parents and carers for modelling safe pedestrian behaviour and driving with caution around the school. By slowing down, avoiding distractions, and staying alert in school zones, you are helping to create a safer environment for all.
Together, we’re building healthy habits and reinforcing the message that every step and every decision counts when it comes to road safety.

Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics
At Wentworth Point, we offer Special Religious Education (SRE) classes for Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, and Islamic students. These classes are taught by authorised representatives and provide students with the opportunity to learn about the beliefs and practices of their chosen faith. We also offer Special Education in Ethics (SEE), where students engage with stories and discussions that help them develop skills in ethical reasoning, decision-making, and respectful debate. Through these lessons, students learn how to evaluate dilemmas, express their opinions with evidence-based reasoning, and collaborate with their peers.
Lessons are every Thursday, 2:15 PM – 2:45 PM. At enrolment parents will have selected a group for their child. Students continuing from last year will remain in the same group unless a change is requested. If there is a need to change your child’s SRE/SEE preference, please email the school with the updated information by Friday 23 May. No changes will be made to scripture groups after this date.
Students who do not attend SRE or SEE will participate in Non-Scripture classes, where they will engage in quiet activities such as reading, drawing, or listening to stories. Regular school lessons do not take place during this time.
For more details on the SRE/SEE curriculum, please visit the links below:
SRE (Special Religious Education) and SEE (Special Education in Ethics) groups at WPPS are led by trained community volunteers. Each volunteer completes training with their organisation and a yearly school induction. WPPS staff are always present to supervise these sessions. Sometimes, a volunteer may be absent due to illness or personal reasons. When this happens, students still attend their nominated group and participate in non-scripture activities.
From Term 2, WPPS now offers Ethics for Stage 2 and Stage 3 students. Expressions of Interest were collected earlier this term. Ethics groups are capped at 22 students. Stage 2 is currently full, while Stage 3 has limited places available. We’re pleased to welcome a new Hindu teacher who has recently joined the team of volunteers. We’re very grateful for the time and commitment of all our volunteers who provide these valuable learning opportunities.
If you're interested in becoming a volunteer Ethics or Scripture teacher, please contact the school office and we’ll help connect you with the relevant provider.
Kind Regards
Daniel Hall

Centaurus
Centaurus students have settled into Term 2 with great enthusiasm, diving right back into engaging learning activities! A highlight so far has been our fantastic netball incursion, where students showcased and developed their skills.
With a love for being active, this program has allowed us to utilise and enhance our playground spaces effectively while having a blast. We’re eager to continue our sports journey and see our skills grow this term!

Stage 3 Drawing Club

We are building strong speaking and listening skills in Stage 2!
At Wentworth Point Public School, we’re proud to be leading a whole-school focus on strengthening students’ speaking and listening skills. One of the ways we’re doing this is through dialogic teaching, which encourages students to have meaningful conversations where they share ideas, ask questions, and learn from each other.
In Stage 2, our EAL/D students have been taking part in a variety of fun and engaging oral language activities in English. They’ve been practising how to ask thoughtful questions, explain their thinking clearly, and respond to others respectfully.
These activities are helping our students become confident speakers, better listeners, and stronger communicators. These are skills that support learning in every subject. We’re excited to continue helping them grow into collaborative and expressive learners!

Cress-tastic Fun with the Elephants!
This term, Stage 1 are learning about food and fibre in our science unit. This week, the Elephants class planted cress to explore the journey from farm to table. Cress is one of the fastest growing plants on Earth. It’s an edible herb from the mustard family and grows quickly with just the right care.
We learnt that cress needs nutrients, sunlight, and water to grow. Then, we had a go at planting it ourselves! First, we scooped some soil into a plastic cup, sprinkled the tiny seeds on top, and gave it a gentle spray of water to keep the soil moist. We’re so excited to watch our cress grow a little more each day!

The Giraffes are Becoming Mathematicians
In Year 2, our giraffe mathematicians have been learning how to classify and describe information. Using pictures and symbols, they explored ways to present data clearly. To support this, we introduced new vocabulary through a "word wheel," which helped students during class tasks. They practiced using these new terms in a “turn and talk” activity, guided by our learning intention and success criteria.
As a class, we created a Venn diagram to sort information into writing or maths, helping students understand how data can be organised. In small groups, they then collected their own data to answer a new question and presented their findings to the class, using vocabulary from the word wheel. Students had lots of fun gathering and sorting information with their Venn diagrams and confidently used mathematical language to explain their results.

Hyraxes - Where Imagination Meets Information
Over the past few weeks, Year 2 students have been exploring hybrid texts by reading Great White Shark by Claire Saxby and Cindy Lane. A hybrid text blends narrative (storytelling) and informational (factual) elements to engage readers in a creative and educational way.
Each class created their own hybrid text based on their class animal—and as the Hyraxes, we became proud authors of our very own mini books titled The Hyraxes.
In our writing, we learned to include Tier 3 vocabulary and general pronouns like they and it when sharing factual information. For the storytelling parts, we used descriptive language and personal pronouns like he, she, his, and her to bring our characters to life.
We’re thrilled to share some of our incredible Hyrax Hybrid Texts with you. We are so proud of our work!

Shooting for Success: Class Draco's Netball Skills Unleashed!
This term, Stage 3 has been excited to enhance our physical education program by learning netball skills from specialist teachers! Our students will engage in fun and interactive sessions that focus on the fundamentals of the game, including passing, shooting, and teamwork.
Under the guidance of our skilled instructors, 5/6 Draco have been developing our coordination and strategic thinking while enjoying the spirit of friendly competition.
We are incredibly proud of how Draco have embraced this opportunity to learn and grow. Their enthusiasm and determination have made each session a memorable one! We look forward to continuing our journey in sports and physical education.
Go 5/6 Draco!

Stage 2 Lego Club - Let’s GO play with LEGO!
In Term 1, the Stage 2 LEGO club have been given a challenge every week to promote creative thinking. Some challenges included: Building food items, building a bridge, making items using only one colour, designing a monster, and creating a marble maze. If you want to work with new friends and solve some awesome new LEGO challenges, everyone in Stage 2 are welcome to join in the fun in Term 2! Stage Two LEGO club runs on Tuesday Break 3 in the Galah’s room (if no wet weather is called).
